In-demand Rangers star not expecting end to Shrewsbury Town stay

Shrewsbury Town loanee Greg Docherty has hinted that he does not expect to be sold by parent club Rangers this month despite reported interest from Sky Bet Championship pair Hull City and Rotherham United according to The Scottish Sun.

The 22-year-old Milngavie-born midfielder is midway through a season-long loan spell at Sky Bet League One club Shrewsbury Town and the player has impressed during his time in Shropshire.

It has been reported that both Hull City and Rotherham United are monitoring the youngster’s progress closely and could opt to submit transfer bids for Docherty this month, however, the player has admitted that he is focussing solely on his football at Shrewsbury Town and is not interested in the speculation.

Docherty came through the youth system at Hamilton Academical and the player went on to make 108 senior appearances for The Accies in which he scored eight goals. The midfielder moved to current club Rangers 12 months ago and signed a four-and-a-half-year deal at Ibrox.

Since moving to the Glasgow giants, Docherty has made 14 appearances for The Gers while he is yet to open his goalscoring account for the club. The youngster has featured for loan club Shrewsbury Town on 31 occasions this season and has netted seven goals.

Docherty is still thought to feature in Rangers boss Steven Gerrard’s plans for the future. It has previously been suggested that Rangers could recall the youngster, although the continuation of his loan spell with The Shrews seems the most likely option.
