Shrewsbury Town 1-0 Carlisle United

Daniel Udoh's first-half goal secured Shrewsbury their first home win in seven League One games against rock-bottom Carlisle United.

After a quiet opening 40 minutes, Shrewsbury broke the deadlock just before the interval through leading scorer Udoh.

After receiving a ball into the box, the 27-year-old did well to hold off a defender before spinning and firing past Harry Lewis at his near post.

Shrewsbury nearly doubled their lead three minutes later when Carl Winchester struck from inside the box, but Lewis tipped the ball out for a corner.

Carlisle came close to an equaliser through Dan Butterworth just before the hour.

He won the ball high up the pitch before dancing around the Shrewsbury defence and attempting a shot from close range, but goalkeeper Marko Marosi did well to save and clear the danger.

Butterworth went close again soon after from a free-kick on the edge of the box, but his effort whistled past the post.

That was as close as the visitors would come and Udoh almost snatched a second late on with an effort from the edge of the box which flew over the bar.

    Shrewsbury were lacking initiative. I hope some players stay, but the structure with Directors all over the place ( overheads in the profit and loss accounts), have done nothing positive.

      Good to see the return to Shrewsbury of Harry Lewis, he was only a youngster when he left us for Southampton, he's not the only connection between our clubs, manager Paul Simpson took us to a League Two Play-off Final. Josh Vela had a couple of excellent seasons with us and we signed Morgan Feeney from Carlisle.
      It's been a bad season for you Carlisle fans, i hope you better for next season.

    It cannot be overstated how important this win is and we're not safe by any means. With our poor goal difference, another couple of wins are still needed.

    Carlisle club owner Tom Piatak dropped a huge hint earlier this week that super Simmo will remain as manager this season. His words came as a relief to those of us who believe Paul is divine and was directly chosen by God himself to lead the club to the top flight and then onto Champions League glory.
